I am not talking about the scrambled timeline here I am talking about relationship dynamic.

The Doctor’s relationship (whether platonic or romantic) with his companions is pretty straight forward. He takes them where they never thought they could go, he impresses them with his brilliance and insanity, and in return they offer his broken soul some comfort of a friend. 

But with River it is very different. to start she isn’t impressed by almost anything he does, she doesn’t think his brilliance is that amazing, he is just above average to her. she doesn’t need him to take her where she wants or to see the universe, she can do that on her own with her vortex manipulator. so all his tools are useless on her.

but not only that, she often shows him up. she figures things out at almost the same time he does. she whisks him off on crazy adventures with a note of “hello sweetie”. so she is his Doctor, not his companion.

but I think he loves that. at first it distresses him, they have a bit of a power struggle as she shows him up and he keeps denying the possibility of her knowing what he knows.

but I feel that in the end an equal is something he has craved. ever since the time war he hasn’t really had an equal (or at least one who wasn’t trying to kill him). so ten was always excited when he found someone anywhere near as clever he was. and I think the doctor has enjoyed not always being the brightest in the room, he loved his travels with Romana just for that reason. 

so River offers him something he has never seen in a human, an equal. and I think he loves that. but it is more that she is his equal, she doesn’t see a real logical need for him, she can fight her battles quite well on her own but she chooses to bring him in to be with him. and the only real need that she has for him is an emotional need because just like him she is a broken soul so when the two of them are together they can help tend the others emotional wounds and make each other feel whole. 

and if you ask me that is love, she doesn’t really need him by her side to help her fight, and he doesn’t really need her to help him adventure, but when these two broken people are together they feel a bit more whole. and I don’t think that many of the doctor’s other love interests really have that.

(don’t get me wrong, Rose and 10 made a cute couple but they just wouldn’t work out because she is too human)

OK I have talked about this before but this is my final bit about this that I will reference from now on. 

I believe that River (and a few passengers) could visit the Ponds by landing outside of the range of the Ponds temporal disturbance (which is why the TARDIS and maybe the Vortex Manipulator, have issue landing) and then taking local transport to visit the Ponds. Now this is for visiting only, if River picks up the Ponds to take them somewhere it could cause a paradox. River loves her family (Amy and Rory are the only people (that we know of) that she loves more than the Doctor) so NOTHING would stop her from seeing them.

• River says that her Vortex Manipulator can go where the TARDIS can’t (motorcycle through traffic)
• The Ponds’ temporal disturbance can’t cover all of the world (the doctor has landed on earth between the 40’s and when ever the Ponds die)
• River is as stubborn as a mule, so if she wants to see her parents she is going to see them, and if the Universe gets cooked she won’t care (she risked all of continuity and her own existence by wanting to be with her parents during their childhood, and she risked all of time just to save her crushes life)
• she can do it with out creating the paradox (of seeing the tombstone)
• Amy never said that the Doctor doesn’t visit, she said that it had been a while since she saw him (it is almost a hint that she does see him)
• River kind of hints that she will make contact with Amy when Amy is stuck in New York (by saying that she will give Amy the book(to get it published), and if she gave it to Amy to publish in modern Leadworth then Amy should have recognized it in New York)
• The doctor didn’t say that they couldn’t visit, he said that they couldn’t go and pick up Rory. and the reason he didn’t offer Amy a ride to meet up Rory is because he wouldn’t be able to let her go, he wouldn’t take her to Rory (and River would also have a hard time too)

My thoughts on Doctor/TARDIS and the TARDIS’s interactions with the universe.

• The TARDIS was the majority part of the BADWOLF. Rose never called the Doctor “My doctor” the only time anyone has called the doctor “my doctor” is when referring to a doctor from a different point in time except for the TARDIS who actually believes that she owns the doctor as much as he owns her. 
• The TARDIS would risk everything for the Doctor. She put Rose in a situation that could have easily ended with Rose dying, also she made jack immortal which puts all huminodes at risk (if you know what i mean)
• the TARDIS and Jack have a bond, not as strong as Doctor/TARDIS or River/TARDIS but still a bond, he wanted to help her(by both giving her faster recharge and upgrading defense systems by incorporating the extrapolator) at Cardiff (in boom town) instead of running off and probably racking up at least one more one night stand
• River and the TARDIS are very close. the TARDIS is probobly happy to have a second timelord on board and to see the Doctor happy by having a girlfriend. I also think that the TARDIS made River who she is, both in making her more timelord and in making her love the doctor. the TARDIS crashed at Amy’s door not anyone else and intigrated the Doctor into Amy’s life so it could be argued that River was planed by the TARDIS, the TARDIS also helped clean out Rivers mind and showed her who the Doctor really was (and maybe also put the seed in Rivers mind to transfer regenerations) thous letting River fall in love with him and try to save him.

This will be the Primary Doctor Who canon, all Fics made using it will be tagged “will’s whoniverse”. and here are some key differences between it and the canon:

• Amelia Donna Song: River and the Doctors daughter, lives with the Doctor for now, raised by the Doctor and River when River takes “maternity leave” from stormcage but to the guards it will only be a week, 99% timelord (based on the doctors DNA and River’s time DNA), curly hair like Rivers but bright red like Amys but has the Randomness of the Doctor. more details in another post
• Issac Canton Pond: Amy and Rory’s human son, about the same age as Amelia.
• Jenny and River were classmates and friends in college (IDK I might even write a short fic of River and her dating in college, it might be amusing just for when I have Jenny meet back up with the doctor)
• when on dates River and the Doctor often use the titles of king and queen of Gallifrey 

almost everyone thinks that River just lives as a house wife in the library computer, now I am not 100% convenced that she is actually in there or that she will stay there forever. but if she is there for an etended period of time here is what I think happens.

Now this is just an intro I will do a series of posts with different concepts or aspects of life in the library. discussing things from what she does for fun, how she is with the kids, and even the Doctor visiting. but today I am just going to talk about the basic principles and technology.

First off she isn’t limited to the world that we saw. lux said that CAL had all of history and fiction to experience so River does too. so she could visit all known worlds and all fictitious universes. 

second I doubt that she is limited to the preprogramed worlds she could probably ”imagine” things and worlds into existence she could make a TARDIS of her own that would let her travel to these times and places and she could probably even imagine her own worlds where she wouldn’t even be bound by the laws of physics (we will get to this in a later post)

also I doubt the doctor would leave her there on her own if he can’t get her out or while he is getting the kinks worked out for extraction he could visit. or even bring other people (like the ponds). but that is another post as well.

here is the list of posts I plan to have with more details. 

• Adventures with her archaeological team (as they now have all of time and space to explore as her companions)
• The Doctor visiting (this will be at least two posts (and maybe a handful of Proto-Fics) to discuss him visiting her and the kids and date nights)
• Amy and Rory visiting (you know the doctor would bring them some times to meet their “grandchildren” and to hang out with their daughter/best friend)

Intro:

I have talked before about the Doctor extracting River from the library so I decided to consolidate these ideas to one place with all the advantages and disadvantages. each one of these is a different methods (borrowed from different species) that exist in the whoniverse  

Sontaran:

This would be the use of the clone tech that the Sontarans used in Sontaran stratagem. 

Advantages:

• he has negotiated with sontarans before and he can probobly find some honor debt that he can use to negotiate with

Disadvantages:

• they Smell, in poison sky he claimed he could smell that Martha was replaced and he sounded like it was a very promonait smell
• sleeper agent, the Sontarans could find a way to mess with the signal (like how they controlled the Martha clone), and use New!River as a sleeper agent against the Doctor

Nestene:

This would be the use of a nestiene duplicate (like how Rory was in TPO/TBB).

Advantages:

• won’t age, where as organic things tend to age a nestiene wouldn’t
• swapable parts, that might make the bedroom a bit more exciting

Disadvantages:

• kind of fragile, like how Radio signal could be bad and such, but the doctor might be able to “repair” her
• sleeper agent: same as the sontaran clones

The Flesh:

Advantages:

• could be exactly like her down to the molecular level
• completely independent, from as far as we can tell each flesh replica is completely independent so no fear of sleeper agent issues (unless some one hacks it on the library end)
• possible to reproduce, if it is a replica on the molecular level the replica should just as easily reproduce as River could
• undetectable difference (the doctor would have to scan her to know if it was a duplicate)

Disadvantages:

• venerable to certain sonic settings
• the signal could be interrupted (but if River’s signal was like Amy’s signal as long as no one interrupts the signal on ether end it should be ok)
• Moral issues, I mean he does have issues with the flesh but if he plans on treating the Flesh River just like Normal River I think the moral issues are null. 

a lot of people are speculating that this will be River’s last series. I think that is complete bull. for a couple of reasons. 

• Moffat LOVES writing River. we can see it from day one, he loves his mind fuckery and innuendos and River is the perfect vehicle for both. 
• It is not canonically necessary. River can out last eleven because Moffat put in a back door saying that the last date might not have been with eleven (in Last Night)
• Alex loves playing River. have you seen her interviews? how she jokes about it, and says that she would love to be River in other shows, or for a River spin off. Yep she loves playing River (and why not it sounds like great fun)
• River is the Doctor’s Wife, it happened, it’s canon, you can’t escape fact. and it wasn’t an accidental marriage like some of the earlier ones, and you can tell the doctor really does love her, he loves the adventure and you see how he acts when ever she hinted about the future relationship.

In conclusion I expect River to be around till at least series 8 and maybe till Moffat steps down as show-runner or god forbid something terrible happening to Alex.

I have often categorized the companions. and I think it’s time for me to formalize these definitions. 

• Full time(aka “The Companions”: these companions are in about 75% of all episodes for at least half a season, these include Rose (for series 1&2), Martha (for series 3), Donna(for series 4), Amy (for series 5, 6, and the first half of 7), and Rory (for series 6, first half of 7, and debatably the second half of 5); Micky, Capt. Jack, and River are not full time companions.
• Part Time(or repeat companions): they show up for more than an episode or two and can include former Full time companions, they include Micky, Capt. Jack, Martha(in series 4), Sarah Jane(in Nu Who), and River
• One Time(sometimes two): these companions only show up in one episode or sometimes two in a row, these include the guy that Rose picked up in Dalek, River(in series 4), the crew from Bowie Base One(from Waters of Mars) and Wilfred.
• Non-companions: these are characters that haven’t traveled by TARDIS, whether they have entered the TARDIS on not, so Micky(in series 1), Lady Cristina and Craig.

I have talked about this before but I wanted to consolidate it to one post.

Idea one: Stories from C.A.L

Basically it would be a series of stories that River tells her “Children” inside the library computer.

Advantages:

• Scattered - it could jump around to avoid spoilers in the main program and give us a wide view of her life from her time in Leadworth to her times as a professor
• Multi-format - It could be short format (30 min episodes), audio books (read by Alex of course), a collection of short stories, or even fanfic
• low budget - if it is in a cheaper format like collection of short stories, fan fic or audio book

Disadvantages:

• Limited adultness - she wouldn’t tell slightly scandalous stories to her kids
• ruins a head canon - my head canon that River ether didn’t die in the library or escapes the library

Idea two: Diary Clippings

basically at some point late in their travels River’s Diary starts falling apart and the Doctor gets to see some of the events from her point of view, and that he wasn’t around for. 

Advantages

• Scattered - same as before we can see most points in her life and avoid spoilers 
• low budget - it can be done as a collection of short stories, a serial publication, or as a fanfic
• more adult - river might not be as censored in her diary
• tempting spoilers - little fragments of what might happen next to tempt us for the next episode, and drive the theory makers crazy (if they are canonical)

Disadvantages

• Print format only - we won’t be able to see it only read it
• Not her whole life - we can’t really expect her to write every thing that happened prior to LKH

Idea three: Night and the Doctor

Basically Doctor Who after Dark, mostly her travels with the Doctor when he picks her up at night.

Advantages:

• more likely to be canonical
• more Doctor/River interactions

Disadvantages:

• almost no insight to her past (leadworth life or Uni life)
• almost no insight to her life out side of the Doctor
• very high budget

Now remember that so far canonically Moffat is the only one who has written for River.

Mentally - 

• Clever - how she could remember all that information 
• “Bullet Time” - how in DotM she was able to hit almost every silent
• Telepathic - able to message the doctor by psychic paper

Physically - 

• Two Hearts? - from the scans from LKH
• Exposure - how she could survive the vacuum of space when she jumped from the Byzantium 

the new set pics(and name) could harm my theories. so this is the update

River/Doctor’s daughter -  time could be an issue, she is wearing modern earth clothing so unless she changed from the wardrobe so that she doesn’t stand out(or if she hangs out with her grandparents often) she can’t be from the 51st century (If I remember correctly that is when River is from (well when she is in stormcage))

Romana - out of the question - she wouldn’t change her name

Jenny- same as Romana, and she would also be from the future so same clothing issue as River/Doctor’s daughter

Rose/Tentoo’s daughter - so far looking the best, she would have been raised on earth in the near future so the clothing fits (as we saw nothing pointing to drastically different fashion in the AU)

Original Post

This is my master post on who I think Jenna’s character may be.

My Main theory is that she is River and the Doctor’s daughter. And here are my reasons

• Amy keeps asking the Doctor if he has ever had children and we know Moffat loves hinting.
• It has been hinted that she isn’t human and that she is as fast talking and clever as the Doctor, the only people who have been like that are Timelords or almost Timelords (Tentoo, DoctorDonna, River)
• “Fond Memories” from the script excerpt from aGMGtW

other theories include:

Romana:

• as I said before about Timelords
• find her in an unlikely place, from what i saw she was left in e-space

Rose/Tentoo’s daughter:

• unlikely place, Pete’s world
• she might have timelord like qualities

Regenerated Jenny:

• unlikely place, the Doctor thinks she is dead
• she is a timelord (almost)
• I would just love to see Jenny and River meeting

I think I like it when the companions stand up to the doctor and when they out smart him. and the more they do it the more I love that companion. 

• In the new show River is my favorite of the companions as she gets the best of the doctor in almost every episode she is in.
• Donna is my favorite of “The Companions” as she can kind of manipulate the doctor and boss him around
• I also loved how Martha often questioned the doctors abilities. she was the cleverest of the human companions. 
• and in the Classic show I just loved Romana, she always questioned the doctor, made fun of him, and out smarting him (also i love hearing about life on Gallifrey)

I mean I Just love the doctor having equals, that’s why I love River (also the Innuendos and BAMFery), that’s why I love Romana, and if the rumors are right about Jenna’s character (about her being as fast talking and clever as the Doctor(Timelord?)) I expect I will love her too.
